anything in a flash.
[view screen shot] Advantages:
-
inexpensive!
- easy to sort your pages into folders and browse contents as a group
- no need to open multiple files
- select portions of the page (text and/or images) to use as a brief
summary
- simply click on thumbnail to view full-size web page
- use the web page's title or enter your own title
- add keywords and comments to any item
- bookmarks and content from other applications can be saved along
with web pages
- source URL is also saved
- group items together then send as an e-mail or export as an .htm or
.pdf file (if you have Adobe Acrobat)
Disadvantages:
- The entire web page will be viewable. However, you must select the portion of the web page that you want to make searchable.
You can do this either while saving the web page, or later when you are
offline.
TIPS:
- Read through the Quick Start Guide and The Basics. It should only take a
few minutes and will make it much easier for you to start saving web pages and
other content.
- Keep in mind that a Surfulater "article" means "Item" or "Topic".
You can also think of "article" as a "new thread", if you are familiar with
forums. A Surfulater "article" does NOT refer to "news article". This
can be confusing if your primary use is to save web pages from news sites.
- Surfulater
saves the title of a web page, which is what appears at the top of your
browser, This may or may not be the same as the title of a news story which
appears on the page. After saving a page, you can enter your own title or copy
a headline into
the title field.
Save using your browser
Click File, Save As and save each page as an .htm file. Open the file
in your browser to view.
Advantages:
- easy to save pages - just save and copy the
files to any folders you choose
- all text within the web page is searchable
- no software to buy if you already have a browser
Disadvantages:
- you have to open each file to browse the contents
- if you want to save an entire web page with graphics, a folder and
several files are created on your hard drive
- usually works well for saving pages with static content, but doesn't
always work if active content is being displayed
